A bail bond is a guarantee that the accused will appear in court. That’s all a bond is! It’s a guarantee of appearance. He is what happens. The accused is arrested, then they are charged with a criminal offense by the Harris County District Attorney’s office, then they appear in Probable Cause Court before a magistrate in Harris County Jail. If it is determined that there is sufficient evidence to charge the accused a bond amount is set. If there is not enough evidence, the accused is released. This does happen occasionally! If probable cause is found, which usually is the case, a bond is set by the magistrate and a bond can be posted to secure the defendant’s released.
